    About

The New Market Battlefield Military Museum is a privately owned and operated Civil War and American Military History Museum featuring over 150 displays of original relics from The French and Indian War through Vietnam.

Most of our numerous displays are Civil War themed, featuring many rare and unique artifacts, photographs, and detailed research.

The museum is located on a portion of the New Market Battlefield known as Manor's Hill. As a result, your tour begins with maps and information on the battle, which was part of the Valley Campaign of 1864 (May 13-15).

Two armies, one led by Union Major General Franz Sigel (Department of West Virginia), the other by Confederate Major General John C. Breckinridge would converge on the tranquil village of New Market, Virginia. Sigel would fail to press his advantage in terms of men and material, while Breckinridge and his subordinates performed with the cunning and tenacity synonymous with the unwavering grey tide from battles past. For three days in May, the rapidly falling star of the Confederacy shone brightly, despite seemingly insurmountable circumstances.

During your journey through our galleries, you will bear witness to the unaltered and unedited events of American military history. You will experience firsthand America's triumphs and tragedies. While here, please be sure to visit our expansive Native American Gallery, featuring original artifacts, photographs, and accompanying history.
